E. Barrenechea: "We are having a great second half of the season"
The Valencia CF midfielder speaks to VCF Media
Valencia CF players, Diego López and Javi Guerra, continue their progression with Valencia CF's first team after their debut in LALIGA in the 2022-2023 season. Both youngsters reached 50 official matches in LALIGA EA SPORTS against Villarreal CF.
The striker from Turón arrived at Ciutat Esportiva in 2021 to join VCF Mestalla. His speed and eye for goal meant that, on 29 August 2022, he made his debut with the first team in LALIGA in the match against Atlético de Madrid. Diego made a decisive contribution in the final stretch of the campaign, taking advantage of those playing opportunities in which he scored goals against Real Madrid CF, RCD Espanyol and Real Betis as well as providing an assist in the victory against RC Celta.
His huge breakthrough, performance and consolidation in the elite has also caught the attention of the Spanish U-21 National Team, with which he has been important for Santi Denia. Recently, the Asturian winger was champion of the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
The midfielder from Gilet joined the VCF Academy in 2019, where he trained and progressed until arriving at VCF Mestalla. In January 2022, he debuted with the first team against CD Atlético Baleares in the knockout round of the Copa del Rey. His debut in LALIGA came on the 29th matchday of the 22-23 season in the match between Valencia CF and Sevilla FC at Camp de Mestalla. From that moment on, his quality made him consolidate his place in the first team with relevant performances such as the one on matchday 31 of that same season in which he scored the winning goal against Real Valladolid.
This past 23-24 campaign he was nominated as the best under-23 player of LALIGA EA Sports, one of the top scorers of the team during the season and one of those who accumulated more minutes throughout the season. Likewise, at international level, Guerra has been one of the regular players in the call-ups with the Spanish U-21 National Team, since his debut in September 2023.
