Alderete: "We put in a big effort to achieve the win"
Omar Alderete marked his debut for Valencia CF with a victory at Mestalla, and the Paraguayan expressed his delight with the win against Getafe in a post-match interview with VCF Media.
"I think that we put in an incredible effort. It isn't easy when you go a man down so early. I think that it changed the entire game. It makes it more difficult and we had to hold back and shut things down a little more. The team were able to win the game anyway; scoring the goal quickly helped our morale," he explained, having played a big part in shutting out persistent Getafe attacks.
"It's always important to keep a clean sheet, and work on attacking from there. I think that we have very good players up top, who at any moment can score a goal or create a dangerous situation."
"Today Gabriel Paulista and I had a tough job to do, because the team played a little further back after the sending off. We had to be very focused and shut them down. I felt very good. I had things to improve, like anybody, and I'm sure that we'll work on this during the week."
The LaLiga opener was a second game at Mestalla for the centre back, who played in the Trofeo Naranja in front of fans just a fortnight ago. Alderete expressed the importance the supporters played in the victory.
"It was very nice to have the fans there. After 1.5 years of the pandemic, I think that with over 10,000 here you could feel the influence of the fans. It's really nice to compete like this, and I hope that more people can come along shortly."
