Baraja: “A draw was a fair result"

RCD Mallorca- Valencia CF post-match press conference

The coach of Valencia CF, Rubén Baraja, appeared in a press conference after the 1-1 draw against RCD Mallorca.

The game

“The feeling is that the game was open after we made it 1-1. The start was difficult and Mallorca are a team that break you down a lot. We reacted well and in the second half, we just lacked a little clarity in those final metres, that last pass and some clear goal-scoring chances to win the game.

We lacked clarity in our decision-making and the final ball. Logically, as the game progresses, the level of freshness is not the same. We searched for a goal and the team always stayed in the game. It can also be improved if a player had made a clearance when they made a mistake, but these are things that happen and you have to live with the mistake.

The majority of these players are young kids who are in that process of improvement. We weren't forceful in that action and Mallorca took advantage of it. What I liked the most was Mosquera's response: He picked himself up and had a fairly complete game against players of the stature of Muriqi and Larin.

The feeling we have is that the kids are working and that, in this process of improvement that we want them to have, we have to support them, defend them, demand of them, but also understand that they can make mistakes.

What I liked the most was the response to the error. In summary, a draw is a fair result because Mallorca had their chances and the effort by both teams was incredible.”

The result

“When you play against a Mallorca side that have a good dynamic and no other teams have won here, and you compete like we did today, it's good. In Seville, we didn't play like we know how, today the team had a very good response to what we wanted to rectify and improve. We have been quite consistent in terms of what we want to be, our effort and what Mallorca demanded of us. The team reacted well and we had a chance to win. On some actions, we could have also lost, but we have to value each point and it helps us to continue in our fight for our objective.”

A possible penalty for Hugo Duro

“I don't usually talk much about referees. On the pitch it seemed to me that something had happened. Then when I looked at the footage, I thought it was an action in which VAR could have considered it and shown it to the referee, because there is a grab. The referee saw it, he stopped the game, but VAR should have shown it to the referee. If they don't do that, then we have to continue and that's it."

Yarek

“He is a kid with a great future. We are working with him. He still has to learn certain things about the way of working and day-to-day life at the club. We think that he can be a player of the future for the club and he is there so that at any moment he can enter the team and contribute, like the rest.

We believe a lot in them and we think that through work and the importance of the process, they will make us grow and achieve results. This will make 17 and 18-year-old players develop faster.

Yarek is a very dedicated player, who can also play as a winger like he did today, and it is important that he is prepared to come on at any time. We must be happy that another player from the VCF Academy has played in the Primera Division.”

Thierry Correia

“He was very tired. He had a pretty complete game in terms of what we were looking for. He risked a lot today by playing because he had some discomfort; he did not play in Seville precisely for that reason, to be able to help the team. I hope that it is just a strain and he can be there in the next game. I think it was more from the effort of the game than any specific action in which he felt a strain."

Absences for the match against Cádiz CF

"Diakhaby will not be able to be there and we are going to try to make sure that Canós and Gayà are back. We hope that Thierry's problem is nothing and we will try to get people back because it will be an important match for us we have to try to ensure that this match carries on what we have seen today, because playing away from home, competing like today for 94-95 minutes, must be highlighted. The team have taken a step forward compared to what we saw in Seville and we must value the players' efforts and, above all, the point."
