The 2-0 win against Celta Vigo was a double reason to celebrate for Jasper Cillessen: The goalkeeper was not only happy with the 3 points, but also with his having made a return to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines throuhg injury and surgery.
The Dutchman gave his thoughts on his comeback game after the Matchday 24 contest concluded.
"It was a very important win. I'd been working hard to get back into the team after 3.5 months out injured. Every day in my mind I was thinking about coming back and playing a home game. It was really good," he told VCF Media.
"I was working hard to come back. Every player wants to play. Every day, every double session with the physios and the fitness coach, I've been working to get here."
The win also came with a special dedication, as Cillessen turned his attention to a family date.
"I've drawn a lot of strength from my family and friends, as well as the team and the doctors. It's been a very special day for me. It's my mother's birthday on Monday, so it's a good gift for her."
