Alfafar is the second stop for the “Els nostres ídols. Roberto Gil” exhibition, dedicated to the legendary former captain, coach and technical secretary at Valencia CF on the 50th anniversary of his retirement as a player.
Gil, who was unable to attend in person, sent a video message to the opening event.
Born on July 30th, 1938 in Paterna, he was the heart of Valencia CF's midfield from the 1959/60 season until his retirement in February 1971 (after 300 matches). He would win two Fairs Cups (in1962 and 1963) and one Copa del Rey (1967).
The exhibition, which had its first stop in Riba-roja de Túria in June and July, can now be visited in Alfafar, from September 2nd to 17th. It is located specifically in Plaça Sequer de Nelot. More than 1,000 people visited the exhibition in Riba-roja de Túria.
The inauguration was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Alfafar, Empar Martín; councilor for Festivitals and Sports, Eduardo Grau, as well as Valencia CF representatives Joey Lim, executive director for the club and patron of the VCF Foundation; Salvador Martínez, patron of the VCF Foundation; Teo Swee Wei, director of the VCF Foundation; ambassadors Miguel Ángel Bossio and Miguel Tendillo; and José Manuel Sempere from the VCF Footballers Association.
On behalf of the VCF Foundation, Teo Swee Wei stated that: “We want to continue bringing Valencia CF and its more than 102 years of history closer to the fans. For us it is a source of pride to be able to honour one of the great idols of Valencia CF, who did it all: Captain, coach, technical secretary… Roberto Gil is a symbol of Valencia CF and this exhibition is for him. We hope that he will continue to inspire generations of Valencianistas for many years to come."
