The Valencia CF coach talks after the 2-2 result against Deportivo Alavés
Eray Cömert has joined Valencia CF on a four-year deal, and the Swiss defender visited Mestalla for the first time this Tuesday. The new signing spoke to VCF Media to share his excitement about what lies ahead.
How do you define yourself as a footballer?
I'm a player who is very aggressive, who wants to win every time and who hates to lose. I fight hard in every game, and I like to have the ball. I'm definitely an aggressive player who wants to win. I'm very aggressive. Those are my qualities.
Playing for Valencia CF is a dream come true
It's a dream come true, to play for a really big club like Valencia CF, who have a lot of history. I know it's a big step, but I know my qualities and I know that I can improve here as well, taking the step up to LaLiga. I'm very happy and I can't wait to play, to show the fans what I can do on the pitch.
Playing alongside Omar Alderete
I played with him for a year at Basel. We had a really good connection on the pitch and off it. We have also spoken together in the past few days, and he has told me a lot. He's also very happy that I am coming to Valencia CF, to play with me again. I'm happy too. I'm really happy to play with Omar again.
Competitive teams with Bordalás
I know that he plays very aggressively and he wants to win. I think that he expects the players to win aerial duels and to fight alongside each other. From what I've seen when I've played against him, he wants to win every game. He coaches that way. They weren't an easy two games against him: A draw in Spain, and a win at home. Omar and I had two great games, and now I'm happy to have the coach on our side. I want to fight for him.
Experience and leadership
I think that I have the personality to push the other players. I was a leader at Basel, and my personality is to push everybody to give 100% every time. I think that also, with my experience, I can lift the team up. I believe in this.
An easy decision
The first moment, when my agent called me to say that Valencia CF were interested and wanted to sign me, I couldn't believe that it was really Valencia CF, because they are such a big team in a big league. It was an unbelievable moment for me. When I heard it, straight away I said "I want to go to Valencia CF and I want to play for this club." This was my goal, and now I'm here. I'm really excited to be here, and I'm also really proud.
