Gattuso: “We have to keep working to get through this bad time”
Valencia CF coach Gennaro Gattuso talked to the media following the 1-0 defeat for the team at the hands of Real Valladolid, in his post-match press conference.
The league position
We knew what it was before this game. We haven't been able to win for a long time and we knew that this was a delicate match that we had to try to win in order to improve in the standings. This is our reality.
Possible solutions
I have to talk about the work we are doing. We tried to change the style of play, and change some other things. We played waiting for the opposition a little more. In the first half we had 4 or 5 chances to score, but we didn’t have any luck. In the second half we got a little worried. I can only talk about myself. We are getting a lot of fatigue and that's it. I can't speak for the rest. I am the coach, and the first person in to take responsibility is me.
The playing style
In our first months here, the team had a very well defined style of play, pressing high, keeping the ball... we have lost many games that the team did not deserve to lose. At the moment we are not in good shape, we are not playing calmly, and today we tried to change a bit and play a bit more long ball football, and waited a little for the opposition. We have to keep going and wait for this bad moment to pass.
Responsibility
I stand up and say that the first person to be held responsible is me. I do not control the money the club have and I am not the owner of the club. I am here to work and that is my responsibility. If you tell me that we have to sign or not to sign, it is difficult for me to give you an answer.
His future
It’s normal for people to talk about my future, as that is part of my job. I have to think, and I have to respect what the club might decide. My priority is to see how to improve the team because we are in a very negative time.
