José Luis Gaya scored his first goal for Spain in Friday night's encounter with the Faroe Islands, as his country ran out 1-4 winners in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying match.
The Valencia CF player impressed with his runs down the left wing and link-up play with Santi Cazorla and Isco, as well as sending several dangerous crosses into the box. In the 71st minute he was himself played through by a pass from Marco Asensio, and finished past the goalkeeper to open his account for 'La Roja.'
"The pass was incredible and I was able to convert it. Obviously the most important thing is that we won. It was always going to be a difficult game, because of the state of the pitch and because they were going to shut up shop, but we were the better side in many aspects of play," said Gayà after the final whistle.
"It's been a very complete year on every level, for both Valencia CF and for the national team. Now we have to finish the job against Sweden, which will be the toughest game in the group," he said, looking ahead to Monday's season-ending fixture.
Rodrigo and Dani Parejo were also selected for the game against the Faroe Islands, but would not feature.
