José Luis Gayà acknowledged that defeat against Atalanta made for a bad experience for Valencia CF, but made clear that the squad still believe a fightback is possible next month.
"It's a very tough night. It's very difficult for us and for the fans as well. However, I don't think that we saw a lack of attitude on the pitch," he said after the game.
"We leave here with an unfair result, but we are focusing on the return leg. We need to convince ourselves that we can turn this around; Mestalla has seen some magical European nights, so why can't we repeat that?"
"We gave them five very clear chances, and it's an aspect that we need to improve for the return leg," Gayà continued. "We generated a lot of chances, but they were effective and we weren't. We are very convinced that we can come back, and I think that we can beat Atalanta 3-0 at Mestalla. We are very convinced that we can come back. When we got back to the dressing room, we told each other 'we can do this.'"
