“We play for you, Valencia”
Cristhian Mosquera, Javi Guerra and Diego López will compete with Spain's Under-21 side
Maxi Gómez was handed his official Valencia CF debut in the Matchday 2 game against Celta Vigo, coming straight into the starting lineup for the meeting with his former club.
The Uruguayan had not featured in the LaLiga opener at Mestalla -due to the need to make a defensive switch late on-, but was part of Marcelino's first eleven in a partnership with Kevin Gameiro.
Still adapting to the nuances of his new side, Gómez showed plenty of desire and will to score, participating in four chances for Valencia CF in the second part of the first half -their best spell of the game.
Gómez nearly connected with a good cross in from Guedes, which would be sent against the bar by Wass off a good save by Rubén Blanco. Next, he was also close to reaching a killer ball by Gameiro. A clever turn created another chance, and then he almost took the ball into a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.
The goal didn't come on Matchday 2 for Gómez or Valencia CF, but the Uruguayan gave a hint of what is to come on his debut.
