📽️ In-depth interview with Omar Alderete
After signing his contract and joining up with the squad at the Hotel Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort, Omar Alderete chatted with VCF MEDIA in an in-depth interview, revealing his goals as a player at his new club.
Training in Oliva
“It’s very nice. I needed to change the weather around me as I was always very cold in Berlin. I’m happy with the club and with the city, which looks very beautiful.”
Meeting new teammates
“I have still had very little time with them, but I have had dinner and breakfast with them. I’m getting to know them a little more now and joining up with the group. This is an excellent club, with very good people here, which you can see. That is important as well.”
Bordalás’ welcome for him at the hotel
“I'm very happy with him. I know about the coach, as I played against one of his teams. His sides are always very difficult to play against, and I hope Valencia CF are like that too for the opposition.”
“The time I played against his Getafe team, I think that the kicks that day were a little over the top, but I also think he likes that! (laughs). I'm going to work to meet the demands required, be physically fit, train at the same level as my teammates and fight for my place. The first thing I have to do is integrate and adapt to the group, which is also important.”
The decision to sign for Valencia CF
“I really like LaLiga; whenever I spoke with my agent I always said that one day I would like to play in Spain, and we all know that Valencia CF are a big club. When I was told that the opportunity was there, I didn’t really have any doubts. I'm very happy and I know the history of the club; I have a friend who was here, Nélson Haedo Valdez, and he also told me a lot about the club. I'm very happy.”
What Nélson Haedo Valdez told him
“He is a player who always gives everything on the pitch, and whenever we spoke he shared his great memories of Valencia CF with me. We had a chat on WhatsApp. We met three years ago at Cerro Porteño, and we have been talking in recent days. He asked me if everything was confirmed, and I'm sure that in the next few days we will continue talking about the club. I know a lot about Valencia CF and I know where I am.”
A message for the fans
“I like to always give everything for the team, and to do whatever it takes to win games.”
A change of plans to start work immediately
“I came to Spain to sign the contract, and I preferred to stay here and start working to join up with the team as quickly as possible. I want to save time with that as well. I have come here to be at my best, and if I need to train twice as much, I will. I like to adapt to what is asked of me, to do my best for the team.”
His start in football
“I have had many great people help me throughout my career, to grow and always make progress. I was at the school of Pedro Nelson Fleitas, a great friend of mine who won the Copa America with Paraguay. He helped me a lot and so did my Uncle Aldo.”
Previous knowledge of Valencia CF
“Valencia CF have always been fighting to play in the Champions League and the Europa League. I know that in recent years things have not gone as well as before, but I want to work and help Valencia CF to get to where the club have always been, which is what everyone wants.”
Defining himself
“I am a very tough player with my marking and I like to play with the ball at my feet a lot. I am a skilful centre back and I like to play long passes, but I always like to adapt to what the coach asks of me.”
