Jaume congratulated on cup win in hometown
Valencia CF's Copa del Rey-winning goalkeeper Jaume Domenech received an homeage in his hometown of Almenara on Thursday, with over 1,000 people turning out to greet the shotstopper.
The event, part of the joyous celebrations of the club's first trophy in 11 years, was also attended by the town's mayoress, Estíbaliz Pérez, who called Jaume "An example to follow."
"We are a lucky town, and those here are a reference to us, because it's possible to get to the top and be winners," she said.
A group of inhabitants of Almenara travelled to the Benito Villamarin last Saturday, bearing a giant sign with Jaume's image on it. A representative from that travelling party read out a message to the goalkeeper.
"Almenara is proud to be your town. We're proud to see how you have grown and progressed. You have brought the Copa del Rey back for all the fans. There are also your values: You've never made anybody feel inferior to you."
The player himself -one of Valencia CF's captains- addressed the fans present.
"These last few days have been full of many emotions and memories, and of many things that will remain in my memory forever. Looking at the faces of the people here, you realise that we have achieved something huge. It's especially emotional for me to be here with you, with people from my town, because you have seen us grow and know what it has taken for us to get to where we are. The Copa del Rey belongs to you as well, as this wouldn't be possible without your support. This is my home, and it will be forever."
