The family of Juan Cruz Sol received Valencia CF's gold and diamond insignia this past week, on behalf of the late club legend.
The president of Valencia CF, Anil Murthy, presented Paola Barrachina -Sol's widow- and daughters Paola and Alejandra received the distinction at Mestalla last Sunday, coinciding with the game between Valencia CF and Atletico Madrid.
Barrachina expressed her gratitude to the club, saying that "It was the finishing touch to all the tributes that Valencia CF have paid to Juan. We have come to collect this insignia, which he deserves for his sporting career and for the work that he has done for the club. Even if it is a posthumous award, it makes us very proud."
"We are incredibly grateful to Valencia CF and president Anil, because he has always been very fond of him. I think Juan deserved this recognition. He will always remain in our hearts," she stressed.
Juan Cruz Sol passed away on November 10th, 2020. The presentation of the gold and diamond insignia was scheduled to have been carried out prior to his death, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Juan Cruz Sol is a legendary figure in Valencia CF's history, and is remembered with a room at Mestalla that bears his name.
The Sala Juan Cruz Sol is intended for meetings and institutional events with other teams and groups. It is located in the lower part of the VIP Box at Mestalla, exactly in the place where Sol carried out his social and institutional work for years as a counselor and ambassador, welcoming bands, clubs, institutions, associations, clubs and directors to the stadium.
