Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Samuel Lino spoke at a press conference on Tuesday to talk about the upcoming game between Valencia CF and FC Barcelona, which will be held at Mestalla on Saturday at 9pm.
Have you found your place at Valencia CF?
I appreciate the coach's confidence in my work in games. I'm very happy at Valencia CF and I want to play every game. I hope the coach continues to trust in me.
You have adapted very well to LaLiga. What changes have you noticed from Portuguese league?
It's different. You have a lot of intensity here. Mentality, you need to think faster and better. In Portugal, the style of football prepares you for the European leagues. This change of league was very good and has helped me a lot.
Would you like to stay at Valencia CF? Has anyone from the club asked you about this?
I want to be focused on Valencia CF and playing here until the end of the season. No one from the club has talked to me about anything beyond that. I'm focused on Valencia CF and my future will be discussed later.
If Atletico Madrid asked you today whether you wanted to continue on loan at Valencia CF or return, what would you say?
They are two great clubs. I'm focused on the present and on Valencia CF. I want to play here and have a good season. At Atletico I'll think about the future, and I don't know if I'll go back or stay. But I am only thinking about having a good season.
What message do you want to give to the fans?
These games have been difficult. There are no easy games in LaLiga. We are going to fight until the end and we are going to fight for the three points like every game.
Many people have talked about you being one of the big surprises of this season. What has Gattuso said to you? And has Simeone said anything to you?
The coach is not really one for talk or praise. The coach wants us to work. He always motivates us to get better and that helps me a lot. I haven't spoken to Diego Simeone since I left Atletico Madrid.
How is the coach working on killing off games?
We always speak a lot about improving and playing well for the whole 90 minutes. We are going to fight together until the end to have a good game against FC Barcelona.
How are the team approaching the match against FC Barcelona?
It is not a delicate moment. We've had two draws and one defeat, but we're going to try to win the game. FC Barcelona are one of the best teams in the world, but we have very good players who are able to play for big clubs like Valencia CF. We are going to fight together and at the end of the game we will find out the result.
What goal have you set for yourself this year at Valencia CF?
I hope to score a lot of goals. I have a strong mentality and want to have a good season. I hope to score 14 goals or more. I'm not setting a target for myself; I think about scoring in every game and I will continue like that.
The dressing room is very young. What is it like before a game as tough as the one against FC Barcelona?
The dressing room is very good. We are very united, both in the difficult moments and the good ones. It's a tough game, but it's football. We can beat Barça and put all these things to one side. I think it's going to be a difficult game and we're very united ahead of it.
Do you feel comfortable in LaLiga?
It's a change of intensity, there is good quality, good stadiums, and the fans are very good. I notice that difference and it gives me more motivation.
What do you think causes the drop in intensity the team experience?
It depends on each player. Each player has a different level of fitness. We have to work during the week to become better in the games and play the entire 90 minutes well. I think it's both mental and physical. You have to have a strong mentality, but you can't run for the whole 90 minutes either and there is a time in which you have to change.
