Marcelino: "Our aspirations of taking fourth place remain intact"
Marcelino García Toral felt that the 3-2 result against Atletico Madrid away at the Wanda Metropolitano was an unfair one for Valencia CF, and explained his thoughts on the match in his post-game press conference after the wet and wild Wednesday night affair.
The result
“Whenever you lose, there is always great sadness, especially with the way it happened. The team came back twice, and it was a pity about the third goal. We kept on trying in the final stages, and we had some chances, but it's the first time that we've let in three goals this season. We have to look ahead. There are 12 points up for grabs, and our focus now has to be on Eibar. That game is a final."
Conceding three goals
"We made a big mistake, which was that we didn't choose the best place to not have our best day defensively. It's the first time in 53 games that we've conceded 3 goals. That means that we lacked that intensity and the idea of everybody defending. What's more, Atletico were very effective, as they didn't have many chances on goal. It's a shame that, having scored twice, we didn't take any points away from here. Our aspirations of finishing in fourth place remain intact."
Subbing off Guedes
"Gonçalo said at halftime that he had a problem with his thigh, and at the start of the second half we saw him complain about it and he looked to be limping. We spoke with the medical team and decided to make a substitution to avoid any risk. We didn't use all of our substitutions because the team dynamic was good. At the end we were able to generate chances on goal."
