Marcelino: "Winning would be like taking 4 points off Getafe"
Amidst Fallas in Valencia, VCF have a big game against fourth-placed Getafe CF in LaLiga on Sunday. Before the 6:30pm CET kickoff, coach Marcelino spoke to the media in his Saturday press conference.
Playing Getafe
"This is a very important game. We will approach it as we should approach every game in all of the competitions that we are still in -which fortunately is three in mid-March. Winning this game would take 4 points off Getafe, as it would mean the 3 points plus the goal average. A draw would mean maintaining the same gap between us and having the goal average in our favour, and losing would be bad news for us. It's a very important game for both teams."
Cup meetings with Getafe this season
"I don't think that the previous games will have an influence. This is a different match, in LaLiga. The fans are going to support their team, who need it. This is the final game before the international break, at the end of 2.5 months playing three games per week -with very good results. We have to focus on this game and the importance it has, and provide the most favourable atmosphere for the players to be able to take the three points."
Villarreal in the Europa League
"I don't like the opposition we were drawn against at all. We are two Spanish sides and we would prefer to face sides from abroad -as I suppose Villarreal would too. I wish we'd have met in the final, or in the semis to guarantee a Spanish team in the final.
Internationals
"I think that it's the first time in nine years that Valencia CF have had three players in the Spain squad, and it's good news. The greatest pride a player can have is representing their country. I think that it will serve as a big morale boost for the end of the season. I will never complain about us having too many international players representing their countries."
Fallas
"We've barely been present for Fallas, with the long trip to Russia and the games we've played. We haven't been able to see Fallas and this beautiful party that the Valencian people and those who come here are enjoying. We're working hard to see if tomorrow we can enjoy Fallas after a victory against Getafe, with morale at a high."
