Valencia CF visited El Alcoraz for their first time ever to play versus SD Huesca in 100 years of history on matchday 36. Valencia CF had a perfect start to the game as Daniel Wass gave Valencia CF the lead two minutes inside the first half after a defense-splitting pass by Gabriel Paulista down the middle for Daniel Wass to run onto and fire home from the edge of the area.
Valencia CF kept on pushing for a second and on six minutes Jose Luis Gaya and Gonçalo Guedes combined well but the Huesca keeper made a smart save to keep out the Portuguese strike.
Rodrigo Moreno put Valencia CF two goals to the good over the quarter-hour mark. The Hispano-Brazilian started off the move, Piccini set Santi Mina away who sent it into Rodrigo Moreno’s path who rounded the keeper and slotted it home to make it 2-0 for Valencia CF
Goals galore as Santi Mina made it three after another devastating counter-attack which the Galician striker finished off with a thunderous strike inside the post to take the game away from Huesca’s hands in the 20th minute.
The Galician grabbed his brace on the half-hour mark after a delightful return pass from Daniel Wass who put it on a plate for Santi Mina to tap in from point-blank range. Valencia CF did not have to wait long for the fifth to come as Etxeita after some poor defending which put Rodrigo Moreno in on goal but it was the Huesca player, however, who guided it into his own net.
The first half finished 5-0 for Valencia CF at El Alcoraz in a breathtaking first-half performance from Marcelino’s side.
The same script followed in the second half and it was Rodrigo this time who grabbed his brace following a delightful ball over the top from Ferran Torres who replaced Gonçalo Guedes at half-time; into Santi Mina who squared it into Rodrigo Moreno to tap it in and make it 6-0 for Valencia CF.
Gonzalo Melero pulled one back for SD Huesca after collecting a loose ball and firing it past Neto in the 65th minute of the game. Valencia CF slowed down for the remainder of the game as SD Huesca were awarded a stoppage-time penalty which Álex Gallar converted.
The game finished 2-6 for Valencia CF after a brilliant first-half performance. Valencia CF will welcome Arsenal FC on Thursday at 9 pm kick-off time at Mestalla for their quarter-final second leg where they will try to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the Emirates.
