MATCH REPORT | Super showing sees Valencia CF beat Atletico Madrid
Valencia CF took a 3-0 win against Atletico Madrid on LaLiga Matchday 5, as Hugo Duro struck twice and Javi Guerra capped the scoring.
Practically with the first attack of note, Valencia CF got the opening goal. A cross from Sergi Canós from the left side met by Duro in the area and the striker drilled the ball in to put his team 1-0 in front, just five minutes into the contest.
In the 20th minute, Valencia CF once again put the opposition goalkeeper Jan Oblak in difficulty with a free kick that hit the post and, in the 34th minute, on the counterattack, Duro finished off to double the lead for Rubén Baraja's men. Pepelu and Fran Pérez had started the move in their own half, with a through-ball perfectly weighted for Duro to finish.
After the interval, the aim was to further increase the advantage, but Atletico Madrid did have opportunities of their own. Georgi Mamardashvili made a great save in the 51st minute from an Álvaro Morata header and the defence withstood the pressing from Los Colchoneros.
Minutes later, a terrific goal from Javi Guerra took the score to 3-0. He dribbled past Witsel, raised his head at the edge of the area and put the ball out of the reach of Oblak as the fans rose to their feet.
The goal rounded off one of the team's best displays of the season so far, and a return to winning ways in LaLiga. Next up is a game against UD Almeria.
