The Valencia CF coach talks after the 2-2 result against Deportivo Alavés
The game did not get off to the best possible start following Hugo Guillamón’s sending off three minutes into the first half. However, Valencia CF did not back down and Carlos Soler gave Valencia CF the breakthrough from 12 yards out as the referee awarded a penalty following Denis Cheryshev’s smart solo move down the wing.
Moments later, he tried his luck again on the rebound following a Gonçalo Guedes cross but the Getafe CF keeper denied him a second.
From this moment on, Valencia CF dug deep withstanding Getafe CF’s waves of attacks and running off the rash challenges from Getafe CF to protect their 1-0 lead going into the interval.
The contest evened out deep in to the second half when Éric Cabaco was sent off for a double booking.
The scoreline remained unchanged despite a few late scares from Getafe CF. Valencia CF managed to hold out in the closing minutes to come away with a valuable three points from an eventful season opener at Mestalla.
