Baraja: "tHE TEAM kePT going AND COMPETED UNTIL THE END"
The Valencia CF coach talks after the 2-2 result against Deportivo Alavés
Valencia CF took victory against CD Arenteiro in the Copa del Rey, in a game that required extra time in Galicia. The 1-3 win came thanks to Hugo Guillamón and Manu Vallejo's late strikes, after Yunus Musah had opened the scoring in the very first minute.
The team fielded a strong starting XI, with several less frequently featured players also getting minutes.
Thirty seconds was how long it took Valencia CF to take the lead at O Carballiño. Musah took advantage of his team's very first chance, backheeling into the net to make it 0-1.
However, the home side rose to the occasion on the first visit of a LaLiga team to the Municipal Stadium Do Espiñedo, equalising in the 8th minute through Joni, who latched onto a pass behind the defence and finished past Jaume Domènech.
Arenteiro began to feel more comfortable, and created several moments of danger, whilst Valencia CF also attacked and had a penalty appeal for Marcos André turned down by the referee.
In the final minutes there were chances for both teams, but the match would go to extra time. Valencia CF still encountered difficulties in breaking the deadlock, but finally, in the 99th minute, Hugo Guillamón scored the second with almost a carbon copy of Musah's opener. Manu Vallejo put the result beyond all doubt with a header in the final minutes.
With their 1-3 win, Valencia CF enter into the draw for the Round of 32, which will be held on Friday at 12:30pm CET.
