VCF Mestalla took on Callosa Deportiva on Matchday 10 in group VI of Tercera División which ended in a 0-1 away win for VCF Mestalla through a Hugo González free-kick wonder strike at the start of the second half. The victory sees VCF Mestalla reclaim the first place of group VI of Tercera RFEF with two games in hand.
Following two weeks without action, VCF Mestalla came out looking to dominate possession. After half an hour where both sides were feeling each other out with the best forays for Miguel Ángel Agulo’s side. First, through a Diego López drive after a threaded ball from Pablo Gozálbez which was scrambled behind for a corner kick and then Hugo González whose effort went wide of the mark to the right-hand side.
VCF Mestalla asserted their dominance as time wore off through set plays and deadball situations bringing constant menace into the opposition box. However, the first half finished goalless with nothing to separate the sides at halftime.
VCF Mestalla had a perfect start to the second half through an unstoppable Hugo González free kick wonder strike into the top corner past Chiri for his second free-kick goal and fifth of the season.
VCF Mestalla increased their control of the game stopping Callosa’s waves of attacks whilst looking to put the game to bed with a second goal.
Hugo González came close to grabbing a brace with a point-blank range effort on 87 minutes after a fine byline dribbling and assist from Gozálbez which was kicked behind for a corner by Chiri.
