Maxi Gómez: "I'm happy about the goals, and an important three points"
The scorer of two goals in Valencia CF's win over Real Valladolid, Maxi Gómez spoke to VCF Media after the final whistle at Mestalla.
"It’s a very important win for us. We worked very intensely throughout the week. I’m happy about the three points, which were really important for us," he said, content with the showing from the team that virtually ensures survival in LaLiga.
"The team have always kept working and we’ve never given up. We showed that today, and we’re happy to have taken the win; it was very important for us," added Gómez.
The brace was the Uruguayan's first of the season in league competition, and his first goals since January -meaning that the day was doubly successful on a personal level.
"I’d had a long drought in front of goal. When you’re a number 9, you always want to score goals. However, I always put the work in and never give up. I always work hard to help the team, be it with goals or my effort on the pitch. I’m very happy to have helped the team today, but I’m even happier with the three points -which we deserved."
Gómez also indicated the approach for the final three games of the season, coming up in a busy fortnight.
"We have three ‘finals’ remaining and we are going to face them in the same way that we did today’s game. We’re missing our ‘twelfth man,’ which is the fans. They are so important to us, with the way that they fight for us and support us. This win is for them, and we are going to keep the same mentality going. I think that we did a good job, and the win is for them."
