Murthy: "It was important to have confidence in the difficult moments"
A delighted Valencia CF president Anil Murthy evaluated the season for the club following their final game of the LaLiga season, giving his thoughts on qualification for the Champions League sealed with a 0-2 win against Real Valladolid.
“We've achieved our objective. We've played 60 games this year, and we've been climbing the table until reaching the Champions League spots. That was the objective that we had since the start of the season. The goal for Valencia CF is to play in the Champions League every year," he told VCF Media.
"It was a very big challenge after suffering in LaLiga, and that's why we have to celebrate alongside the fans. It isn't easy to play in the Champions League two seasons in a row, but it was important to have confidence in the difficult moments and fight tirelessly."
On the Valencia CF project as a whole, Murthy explained the route to success.
"We want sporting, social and economic stability. This project looks for stability in every aspect. If we continue on the same path, we are going to build an even greater club. I said from the start that we want to be amongst the biggest clubs in Europe, and we are going to achieve it. Next year we will fight once more to get into the Champions League; it's our objective and we won't let the opportunity pass us by. If we do it, then everyone will enjoy it, just like the almost 1000 fans who have travelled here to celebrate this great victory."
The Valencia CF president was joined by majority shareholder Peter Lim in the dressing room after the match, to congratulate the players and coaching staff. Murthy said that Mr. Lim “is very happy because we've managed to get into the Champions League for two consecutive years for the first time in many years."
“It's a great Centenary year for the fans and we need to enjoy it. We are in the Champions League, we reached the Europa League semifinals and we'll see what happens in Seville in the Copa del Rey final. We have the opportunity to do another historic thing: Beating FC Barcelona."
