Óscar Fernández: “I’m hurt because our work isn’t rewarded with a win”
VCF Mestalla head coach, Óscar Fernández, assessed the 1-1 draw in the regional derby against Villarreal CF B at the Antonio Puchades ground on Matchday 15 in group III-B of Segunda División B.
“The team do transmit, we do a lot of things but we aren’t effective. Villarreal CF B didn’t cause us problems I don’t recall any save by Emilio. We showed willingness and we’ve created chances and we got ourselves in front thanks to a fine move and we wanting to dictate play at times but it’s all about effectiveness. We are lacking that bit of effectiveness in the final third.
I’m hurt because I see a team that works and puts in the effort but the boys aren’t rewarded with coming away with the win on a Sunday. The season ends in May and it’s true that we’re bottom side but there are three matchdays left until the end of the first stage and there’s a second stage left to play.
We have to pick ourselves back up and top up our energy levels and recovering players who are sustaining niggles. We must focus on getting the win against Atletico Levante in two weeks’ time, we’ve got to keep on working on what we’re doing right, and we’ve got to keep grinding. That’s the only way forward”.
