Enzo Barrenechea, called up by Argentina National Team
Valencia CF player called up to play the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Peru.
In an interview with Goal.com this week, LaLiga president Javier Tebas expressed his support for Peter Lim's efforts at Valencia CF to face the problems generated by COVID-19.
Here is an excerpt from the interview:
Peter Lim's running of the club
"I know Peter Lim very well. He is a man who is on top of things. We do not believe that, just because he is 10,000km away, he is not on top of things. He will make the appropriate decisions at all times."
'Two pandemics' for Valencia CF
"The financial situation at Valencia CF is less concerning than people say it is. Valencia CF are doing what they have to do. Valencia CF have suffered "two pandemics." They haven't qualified for European competition, which means 40 or 45 million euros less in income per season, and they can't have people in the stadium, which means another 40 or 45 million euros lost. That makes 90 million, and if we subtract that from the budget they had when they were in the Champions League, it is what they currently have. When you previously had a 180 million budget and you drop to 90 million, you have to sell players to be able to cover that. If you don't, then it's impossible. The club are doing what they have to do. What they would have to do to avoid it -and we would not allow it because our economic control policy does not allow it- would be to bring in more and more money from abroad, which would inflate the sector."
Patience with Valencia CF
"Valencia CF will return to the situation that they have to return to, but we have to think about what has happened: Two pandemics, in the form of the health situation and of not being in the Champions League. That does not allow you to accelerate the stadium project, because there is no economic capacity for the club to do that. We have to understand the situation and have a little more patience."
