The Ciudad Deportiva for the past, present and future

The VCF Academy celebrates its 30th anniversary with a video explaining the evolution of Ciudad Deportiva

Through until Saturday, February 20th, an exhibition showing the evolution of the Ciudad Deportiva will be on display at the VCF Academy Media Center, to celebrate the training facility's 30th anniversary. The story stretches back to February 19th, 1992.

In 1974, under the presidency of Francisco Ros Casares, Valencia CF held an Extraordinary General Assembly, in which the Board of Directors requested the approval from members to begin the process of acquiring land located at Paterna. The intention was to build the Ciudad Deportiva, one of the most ambitious projects of the time.

Finally, despite controversy due to the bad economic situation that the club was in during the period, the result of the vote was in favour, and the start of the procedures for the purchase of the land was approved.

After negotiations began, in December 1976 the deeds for the acquisition of the land at Paterna where the Ciudad Deportiva was planned to be built were finally signed. Although Ros Casares had initiated the procedures for the acquisition of the land and had previously made their purchase effective, it was not until this date in 1976 that the deeds were officially signed.

After a great debate from club members, Valencia CF acquired an orange grove of some 350 ''anegadas'' at a cost of 70 million pesetas. The purchase ended up being a great success and investment for the team.

Finally, under the presidency of Arturo Tuzón, the construction of the current sports complex began. Two football pitches and changing rooms were built, which allowed the club to hold first team training sessions there.
