Get to know Carlos Corberán better
Review his career here: his training in Spain and his journey through Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Greece and England.
Kevin Gameiro's last visit to the Camp Nou saw him make his mark -and a mark was also made on him. The striker put Valencia CF ahead against FC Barcelona in the February meeting between the two sides, but soon after would collide with Gerard Piqué in a leap for the ball. The knock left the Frenchman feeling dizzy and with his vision impaired, and he was subsequently substituted in the first half.
Nursing a nasty looking black eye, Gameiro took to social media the next day to assure fans that he was ok. "The day after the fancy dress party at the Camp Nou. Thanks for your support!" he joked, also explaining that his children had asked why he was wearing 'makeup' on the site of the bruising.
Far from letting the injury set him back, the forward incorporated it into his goal celebration in 2018/19. Since the Barça game, he scored 9 times, covering his left eye on each occasion and combining it with a smile as he raced to his teammates.
He pulled out the celebration again in the Copa del Rey final, against the side with whom the anecdote began, when he scored off a José Luis Gayà pass into the box to put VCF in front. The team lock horns with FC Barcelona again this weekend, and Gameiro has at least one eye on another goal at the Camp Nou.
