Valencia CF were protagonists of the LaLiga Spotlight event, in which the Spanish league presented novelties for the new season in the United States. This joint action with ESPN, LaLiga’s US broadcaster, involved the participation of media such as the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, The Athletic, USA Today, Fox Sports, ESPN Deportes and CBS, chatting with Valencia CF player Yunus Musah and Atletico Madrid’s João Félix -who will meet on Monday in a game played at Mestalla.
Musah talked about the commitment that Valencia CF made to his growth as a player, saying that “The club believed in me a lot and promoted me to the first team, which prepared me to reach another level and to mature early.”
Asked about his ability to contribute to the team from different positions, the Bronx-born player said: “I grew up playing in central midfield and made my debut as a right winger, so I had to take my opportunity there and I appreciated that too.
Right now I've been playing in midfield and I feel really comfortable there. I also play there with the national team and I feel the same, so it's very natural and I'm doing very well. I'm enjoying it.”
Considered one of the talents with the biggest potential in the United States senior team, many journalists from his country took the opportunity to ask Musah about the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Now we have to focus on LaLiga and then when we go away with the national teams in September we will have to shift our focus again and think about the World Cup. The World Cup is in November, it's going to come around quickly, so we have to be prepared. I’ve had the World Cup as my phone wallpaper for two years. That was always my motivation when I went to the qualifying matches: Thinking about being able to play in the World Cup,” he recounted.
Ahead of the Monday night game, Atletico Madrid’s João Félix said of Valencia CF: “We've seen some videos of how they play, but I can't say too much because Musah is going to tell the coach.”
Gennaro Gattuso was another topic of conversation in the virtual event, as Musah said that 'One of the highlights since I joined Valencia CF was seeing the passion that he showed on the pitch on Matchday 1. We were winning 1-0 against Girona and got a red card in the second half, but we were doing well. He just wanted the game to be over, and you could see how angry he was.
