The Generalitat Valenciana regional government has launched a joint campaign with Valencia CF, Levante UD, Villarreal CF, Elche CF and Valencia Basket to educate young people about the need to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Players from the local sides took part in an appeal video with the motto “There are games that are only won by teaming up."
The video shows footage of the sportsmen helping each other and concludes by thanking young people for their involvement in the vaccination drive. "When we unite, we win" is the message for an initiative that draws a parallel between sporting achievements and those of Valencian society in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Valencia CF president, Anil Murthy, stated that “vaccination is essential to continuing to fight against the virus. At Valencia CF we understand that we have a responsibility to contribute to awareness amongst society, especially the younger members of the community. It is our commitment as a club to give our support to institutions and we encourage everyone to get vaccinated against COVID-19."
“In the last year and a half we have all struggled and gone through difficult times. Seeing Mestalla full again, with the fans getting behind the team, is a reality that we all want to enjoy again. Vaccination is key to us being able to do this."
The Director General of Institutional Initiatives, Fernanda Escribano, thanked the first Primera División football clubs and Valencia Basket for their involvement in an awareness campaign that responds to the commitment made by the respective presidents of these entities, as well as the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, in the meeting they held in mid-July.
