Corberán: “It’s time to compete and to give our all”
The coach looks ahead to the game against Deportivo Alavés
Valencia CF’s quest to get into Europe for a third consecutive season sees them travel to Butarque on Sunday, taking on relegation strugglers CD Leganés.
The team have a positive record against this weekend’s opponents, whom they meet for the second time this season on Matchday 36.
CD Leganés are the top flight side against whom Valencia CF have their best all-time winning percentage, standing at 67%. They have never lost to ‘Los Pepineros’ in the nine encounters between them in LaLiga.
The very first time they met in league competition was in 2016/17, Leganés’ debut campaign in the Primera División. On Matchday 6 of that season, Valencia CF won 1-2 thanks to goals from Nani and Mario Suárez. Curiously enough, current interim coach Voro González was also the man in the dugout that day.
In the eight games since then, Valencia CF have earned 5 wins and 4 draws against this the team from the outskirts of Madrid. Voro also coached in the 1-0 triumph at Mestalla, and Leganés are one of two sides -along with RCD Espanyol- against whom he has a perfect record of 6 points from 2 games.
