Baraja: “The Copa del Rey excites us”
The Valencia CF coach talks about the match against CP Parla Escuela-Fair Play
Gonçalo Guedes sat down with VCF Media at the start of the international break to reflect on the team's current form -including a recent win over Granada CF which has done much to lift the Valencia CF camp.
Winning against Granada
"We got the result, but it was also about the great game we had. We improved the quality of our play a lot compared to other games. We gained a lot of confidence on the ball, and felt much more comfortable.
"We go into the international break with a lot of confidence, and in our minds we have the aim of winning our next game -away from home- and putting together consecutive victories."
A mental boost
"When you work well but the results aren't coming, doubts can creep in as to whether you are doing your job well or not. When you win, you know that you are doing that work well, and you keep doing things in the best way possible. Confidence is important for individuals and the team."
Ambitions
"We're Valencia CF, so we always have to be looking to the top. When we find ourselves in a situation that isn't so good, what is below you crosses your mind, but we have the quality to be up at the top. We are going to try and get as high up as possible; we have the ability, and we will try to make sure that this confidence we picked up in the last game helps us to go further."
Facing Cadiz CF on the return from the international break
"We are going to face the game with a strong will to win. We are going to try to start as strongly as possible. We know that if we are at our best level, are competitive and do what the coach asks of us, and focus from the start, we can take the victory and gain even more confidence.
"It's very important for us to win the next game. We're in good shape, happy and will work well during the week before the match. We will be studying the strong and weak points of the opposition, and trying to take advantage of the latter as much as we can."
Keeping calm
"We have a very young team, who aren't used to being in this situation. It might be a little more difficult, but now I think we are calm. We are only thinking about climbing up the table, as that is the most important thing.
"I am very confident that the team can get two wins in a row. We are going to keep going for three wins, four wins, etc., if we can."
