Back in the hotseat with a victory, Valencia CF caretaker coach Voro González reviewed an important win for his team against Real Valladolid in his post-match press conference.
The importance of the result
“It’s a hugely important win, and a necessary one because we were obliged to win a difficult game. The result is important, and I think that with three centre backs the idea was to bring the ball out better. However, it’s true that the opposition pressed us and played well. At the end of the day, the important thing is that the team were capable of waiting for their moment with the ball and looking for a pass through the lines with Kang In and Gonçalo Guedes. Having the fullbacks dropping to the wings led to the chance that we had to opening the scoring.”
Analysing the performance
“We lacked a little ‘looseness’ and felt the responsibility a bit too much. You could tell that. When we went ahead, we didn’t play some of the balls that we had done in the first half. That shows the necessity, urgency and the awareness that we had to achieve these three points that mean we are virtually safe. It makes you nervous and we were fortunate to have been clinical on our counterattacks to take a significant lead. That’s the reality. The players aren’t unaware of the situation and this was a game that we had to win. In the end, we did that -albeit suffering a lot.”
Responsibility and dedication
“This situation isn’t easy. I take it on with the utmost dedication. I’m a Valencianista, I’m from here and that means there is a lot of responsibility. We tried to look for the maximum implication from the players. You could see the importance of what we were playing for.”
Maxi Gómez’s brace
“He is very important to the team, because he is different from the other forwards that we have. He hadn’t been scoring goals, but we need him. In the air he gives us a lot. We are happy that he scored two goals and that he was important for the team. He had gone a long time without scoring and I am very happy about these two goals.”
Kang In's work
“Kang In had no problem. When playing between the lines, he demanded a lot of the opposition defence. We know what he can offer us.”
Thierry Correia
“He had a good game -as did the entire team. He is a player who is progressing. With this formation he is freed up to go forward. He had a good game and ended it with a goal. He is growing and with this system he can exploit his qualities a little more.”
