Diego López: "Scoring a goal at Mestalla is something magical"

Daniel Wass' adaptability to any position was required again in the first LaLiga game of the season, with the Dane playing as a full back on both sides against Real Sociedad.
Starting off on the right of the defence, and providing Kevin Gameiro with an assist for the team's opening league goal of 2019/20, Wass would later be moved to left back due to a series of circumstances: Regular starter in that position, José Luis Gayà, was suspended, and new signing Jaume Costa was not fit to play 90 minutes after signing for the club four days prior. Marcelino brought on Cristiano Piccini at right back and switched his utility man over to the left side.
Whilst occupying that spot is a relative novelty for him in LaLiga, he made sporadic appearances there for Brondby and Évian Thonon Gaillard FC, featuring in 46 games on the left sided defensive position when in France.
Wass' versatility led to him being the outfield player with the sixth most minutes for Valencia CF last season, with 3,741. He was behind only Dani Parejo, Gayà, Gabriel Paulista, Carlos Soler and Rodrigo Moreno.
