Valencia CF and Granada CF have paid tribute to Ángel Castellanos ahead of this Thursday's match at the Nuevo Los Cármenes on 4 April at 8 pm. This is the first occasion since the passing of the Valencia CF and Granada legend (2 January 2024) that the club will visit Granada. Castellanos has been, to date, the honourary president of the club.
Ángel Castellanos was one of those Club players whose hard work, honesty and professionalism made him an important player and marked an era in which the Mestalla team won the Copa del Rey, Cup Winners' Cup and European Super Cup.
In his ten seasons as a 'blanquinegro' he was a starter with all the coaches who bet on this tactical midfielder, an all-rounder, an 'all-rounder' who recovered endless balls and who was very supportive with his teammates when it came to providing cover. He was an example of competitiveness and commitment.
He joined Valencia CF in the summer of 1976 under the guidance of 'Pasieguito' and established himself definitively in the centre of the midfield after changing position several times throughout his career. He arrived as a central midfielder and then triumphed as a defensive pivot. When the team was attacking, everyone was at ease, because of the solidity of Solsona and Mario Alberto Kempes, were the great beneficiaries of the great work of the player from Ciudad Real.
His progression was constant and, after making a name for himself at Granada CF, he arrived at Mestalla in the mid-70s to stay for ten seasons at Valencia CF, during which he played 468 official and friendly matches. His last game in a Valencia CF shirt was on 20 April 1986.
