Valencia CF has recently hosted a Coaching Clinic featuring a large delegation of professional clubs from Svensk Elitfotboll, Sweden's football league organization, in coordination with LaLiga.
Over several days, representatives from Swedish clubs had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the training methodology of the Valencia CF Academy through classroom and on-field sessions. According to the latest report by the CIES Football Observatory, the Valencia CF Academy is ranked as the fourth-best in Europe for developing players to compete at the elite level.
Learnings
“It’s a pleasure to be here and visit one of Europe’s benchmark projects,” said Thomas Hasselgren, Head of Development for the Allsvenskan. “Our main goal is to understand the methodology of the VCF Academy and see how it’s applied on the field, but also to explore how we can organize ourselves to implement it in our clubs,” he added.
VCF - SWEDEN CONNECTIONS
“We want to be able to develop players good enough to compete in LaLiga. In the past, we’ve had two players at Valencia CF, but we want to have more because LaLiga is one of the best leagues in the world,” said Thomas. He recalled past Swedish players at Valencia CF, such as Stefan Schwartz and Joachim Björklund, who together won the 1999 Copa del Rey with the club. Björklund also added the 2000 Supercopa and the 2001/02 LaLiga title to his achievements with Valencia CF.
together with LALIGA
As part of this development journey, LaLiga facilitates opportunities for clubs from different leagues to learn from benchmark organizations.
“For LaLiga, it’s very important to connect clubs and ecosystems, enabling Swedish clubs to visit Spain, engage with historic clubs like Valencia CF, and discover the workings of the VCF Academy, which is ranked among the best in Europe according to the latest CIES rankings,” said Juan Fuentes, LaLiga’s representative in the Nordic countries.
