Corberán: “We are going to take advantage of the opportunity against Sevilla FC and continue to grow”

The Valencia CF coach previews Matchday 19

Valencia CF coach Carlos Corberán gave a press conference ahead of the LALIGA EA SPORTS Matchday 19 game against Sevilla FC, at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Gayà and Mamardashvili

“Both players have come along positively in recent days. If they are able to complete today's training session and things go as normal, they could be included in the squad. From there, the decision about minutes or starting positions is down to me.”

Nou Mestalla

“Today is a very important and special day for Valencia fans, because it is a significant step forward for the future of the club. Today it is clear that Mestalla has an expiration date and we must enjoy each of the matches that remain -and keep the best possible memory of Mestalla.”

The transfer market

“My objective is to work with the players I have. But I am always informed by the club of the work done by the Sports Management. My focus is on the sporting aspect and on working with the players I have.”

Sevilla FC

“I expect a very competitive match, where what matters most to me is the attitude of my team. That is the key. We want to continue taking steps forward and to take advantage of the opportunity that we have in front of us, with all the ambition to make the most of it. That is the main objective that I have. Sevilla have a very well established identity and they are building on it. They play from the back, very bravely, and prefer to press rather than defend.”

The match against Sevilla

“I have been here for 14 days and I am extremely excited about what I have found at the club: The staff close to me and especially the attitude from the players. We are going into the match in better condition than when we played against Real Madrid. The days that have gone by help us to grow, and with the attitude that I perceive from the players we are going into the match with the chances of being a competitive team. My objective is to get the best from the players, to see them compete with enthusiasm and personality, because that is what brings us closer to winning. We have to show our identity and transfer it to the pitch, be able to attack, defend and manage the periods of the game well.”

The CSD decision on FC Barcelona

“The position as a club has been conveyed through the statement. On a personal level, I have not studied the case to be able to give any kind of opinion.”

Possible player departures

“Valencia CF's objective and responsibility is to strengthen and improve the squad to increase our competitive possibilities, and that is the only thing on the club's mind. I am aware that we are in a transfer window and the market is unpredictable, but our objective is to strengthen the squad.”

Gayà

“When you start working with him, you understand why he has taken on the responsibility and is one of the captains, and it is because he is a player capable of taking on that responsibility. For me it is a pleasure to coach him.”

The difference between Spain and England

“At Valencia CF, we have started to compete since we started. We are in a competitive period and in which we have the responsibility to make sure that the ideas we have are manifested quickly, to help us achieve the results that we all want. I am delighted to represent the club that I am at today. I see a lot of enthusiasm, desire and willingness, and I have a lot of confidence from that.”

The role of the players

“I believe in honesty. I like the player to identify with his role in the squad and I always like to convey that message to the player. I understand that these messages are private and that they remain that way.”

Diakhaby, Fran Pérez and Rafa Mir

“Diakhaby has had partial sessions with the team. Fran has not yet trained with us and Rafa has not either. In the short term, I do not foresee any changes. With Fran, I understand that in about a week he could be training with the group.”
