Tárrega: "We know our strengths"

The defender talks to VCF Media

Valencia CF centre back César Tárrega talked to VCF Radio about the team, his performance and the VCF Academy.

Atletico Madrid

“It's going to be a very tough match, and we have to prepare accordingly. We are very confident and looking forward to Saturday. We are on a good run and we want to keep on picking up points. We are going for the three points. We have to look at the match against Villarreal CF, where we performed at a very high level. We can give everything on the pitch against opponents above us in the table. We know our strengths, and the importance of Mestalla and the fans. We are going to go for it. Last year this fixture was my debut in LALIGA, and I hope the result is repeated. The team have to give everything on the pitch. With effort and concentration we can give a lot.”

The team

“The team are very focused on the defensive aspects. We know the importance of keeping a clean sheet and winning defensive duels. It is a starting point and, from there, we will grow. If we are all focused, on a defensive level, we will be closer to victory.”

Improvement

“We have seen the improvement from the team. We are convinced that we can get out of the relegation zone, that the work we do every week will pay off. That is the way. The work will bear fruit and we are giving it our all in every training session.”

Commitment

“I'm very grateful, both to the coaching staff and to my teammates. They treat me very well and I feel very comfortable here. Those of us who are working hard on a daily basis get our reward and we are very grateful for it. But we must not let up. There is a lot of competition and, with effort and sacrifice, everything will work out.”

The DANA victims tribute against Real Betis

“It is the most special match of my life. From the moments beforehand, the beginning of the week. I knew it was going to be very exciting to go out onto the pitch with the anthem playing, the whole crowd singing it… it was very special. I couldn't help crying. When all the people from the affected towns came out, you couldn't help having that feeling. It was a moment where we had to try to give them some joy after so much misfortune.”

The 33rd anniversary of the Ciudad Deportiva

“It's an honour. Who would have told me that when I signed for Valencia CF, in the youth system, I would end up where I am today? I'm extremely grateful to all those who have helped me fulfill this dream. I would like to thank the club and all those who have coached me, and invite those who come after me to keep working. It's never too late to fulfill a dream, so never stop trying.”
