Gennaro Gattuso's first words as Valencia CF head coach
After putting pen to paper on his contract for the next two seasons as a Valencia CF coach, Gennaro Gattuso, paid his first-ever visit to the Ciutat Esportiva de Paterna and greeted the Club employees ahead of his press conference in the afternoon which will take at Mestalla.
Are you happy to be here?
Very, very, very happy. I am very happy and very proud to be the coach of Valencia CF, a great team with a long history.
What references did you have about Valencia CF before arriving?
When I spoke for the first time with the board, it was an important day for me and also for my coaching staff. For us, it is a great pleasure and a great honour to start a new stage here.
What goals have been set?
We don't have a main goal, but we have the aim of playing nice, aggressive football and making all the fans proud of us.
Mestalla has historically been a difficult stadium for opposing teams. What references do you have for the capacity of this stadium to intimidate the opposition?
I never played at Mestalla, but I know that playing here is not easy. It is a stadium that generates a lot of pressure for the opposition. I always like to say that we have respect for everyone, but that we are not afraid of anything. I like this mentality.
The first contact with the fans at the airport was very intense. Do you want to connect with the fans?
I really want to do that. I am not a man who likes technology very much, but I am at a club that have a strong commitment to technology. I hope that the club help me to connect with the fans; this is the most important thing, that the fans see a positive evolution. We are going to give our all for the club and we are going to work with intensity and great sacrifice.
