Jaume Costa: “It’s a great opportunity to compete in the Champions League for Valencia CF”
Jaume Costa put pen to paper on his loan contract with Valencia CF on Tuesday evening, confirming his return to the club through to June 30th, 2020. He also had time to explain his feelings about the move to VCF Media.
“I’m very happy. These past few days have been fairly intense, because it seemed as if everything was originally going to go through a little earlier, but in the end what counts is that I’m here now. I can’t wait to get started and to train with my teammates,” he said, after meeting with club president Anil Murthy at the club offices to make the move official.
“I was here at the VCF Academy from the age of 8 or 9, until I was 20 or 21, and I made my debut for the first team against Brugge in the UEFA Cup. One of those footballing coincidences have brought me back to this club, where I trained from when I was a kid,” added the VCF Academy product, who joins on loan from Villarreal CF.
“This was an opportunity that I couldn't turn down, to be able to play for this club that have given me so much for a large part of my career. In addition, being able to compete in a competition that I've dreamed of my whole life (the Champions League) is something that I couldn't turn down.”
Besides the lure of Champions League football and his history with the club, one of the big attractions of Valencia CF for Jaume Costa was coach Marcelino, under whom he played at Villarreal.
“The coach is the person who I consider to have got the best out of me throughout my career. The chance to work with him again, and get back to all his philosophies with which I identify, was fundamental. It was very important. I know him, and almost all of the staff and people at the club.”
Costa will train with his teammates from Wednesday, ahead of the LaLiga season opener this weekend.
