Valencia CF hosted Deportivo Alavés on Sunday, May the 5th at 6:30 pm kick-off time at Mestalla on Matchday 34.
The first Valencia CF chance fell to Diego López just five minutes into the first half after a bursting run down the right flank from Peter Federico whose low cross was met by the onrushing Diego López alas his effort blazed over the crossbar.
The game saw an end-to-end spell halfway through the first half with Jaume Domènech denying Kike with a superb reaction stop to turn the ball behind for a corner kick.
Alas, later on, Valencia CF were forced into an injury substitution with the aforementioned Jaume Domènech having to make way for his fellow shot-stopper Cristian Rivero between the posts.
The latter stages of the first half saw a frantic passage of play with both sides looking to earn a foothold in the game, but the remainder of the half went off without further incidents.
The first half finished goalless with nothing to separate the sides at halftime and all to play for in the second.
Rubén Baraja made a halftime substitution with Sergi Canós replacing André Almeida. Valencia CF came out in the second half looking to take the game to the opposition from the restart.
Sergi Canós struck the upright with a powerful drive following a bursting Peter Federico run down the flank who picked out his fellow teammate and pulled it back into Diego López who rolled the ball into Canós, but his close-range effort came back off the upright. Moments later, Cristian Rivero denied Antonio Blanco with a fine piece of goalkeeping.
Rubén Barja shuffled his pack with the third substitution on the midway point of the second half. Alas, Javi López made it 0-1 to Deportivo Alaves from a corner kick against the run of play much to Valencia CF's dismay.
Later on, Diego López thought to have pulled it back level with a glancing header, but the goal was disallowed for a Peter Federico marginal offside in the buildup to the goal.
Valencia CF kept on pushing for an equaliser for the rest of the contest to no avail as they fell to a frustrating and narrow home loss to Deprtivo Alaves.
