Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Valencia CF took victory against FC Spartak Trnava in the team's latest friendly, with a performance that once again proved solid and effective. A goal from Alberto Marí from the penalty spot allowed the side to achieve their second win of preseason.
VCF started the game very active and trying to maintain the good showing that had started against Nottingham Forest a few days prior. Rubén Baraja's side once again opted for a brave approach despite facing well-prepared opponents who begin official competition next week.
The first chance of the match was for the home side, after a penalty awarded by the referee, but Rivero stopped the shot with a great save.
Shortly after, Spartak had another opportunity through Djuriči, but his shot hit the woodwork. Valencia CF reacted after the initial attacks and were able to take control of the game to peg Spartak back.
The first outstanding chance for Valencia CF was by Fran Pérez as the protagonist, but his cutback did not find a finish. In the 25th minute, they found the opening, with a the goal from Alberto Martí as he converted a penalty that he himself had won.
In the second half, Valencia CF tried to maintain intensity and apply the instructions set out by the coaching staff. As a result, Diego López came close to extending the advantage in a quick attack that Rusov kept out. The Asturian attacker had another good opportunity with a shot on the turn. In the 86th minute, he hit a powerful shot from inside the area, but Rusov just deflected the ball onto the post. In the final stretch, Rubén Baraja's men insistently searched for a second goal that ultimately did not arrive, with the game ending 0-1.
Valencia CF will play next Tuesday a new preparation match against FC St. Gallen 1879. Amunt!
